Hearing aids

Every type of hearing aid is made from the same components. A microphone captures the sound, an amplifier magnifies the sound, and a receiver sends the amplified sounds to your ear. There are several styles of hearing aids available in Southfield, Novi, Livonia, and St. Clair Shores, MI, and the best one for you will depend on your lifestyle. Consult with your doctor to find out which style will be comfortable for you to wear and easy for you to use.

Behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aids

This style is worn behind the ear and amplifies sounds into an earbud placed in the ear canal. BTEs are popular because they are discrete, easy to use, easy to maintain, and can help correct mild to severe hearing loss.

In-the-ear (ITE) hearing aids

These hearing aids are custom-made using molds of your ear to fit into your outer ear. They remain visible but are recommended if you have frequent ear infections because they do not obstruct the ear canal. This style can typically correct mild to moderate hearing loss.

In-the-canal (ITC) hearing aids

These hearing aids fit in your ear canals, and only a small portion shows in the outer ear. They will not be recommended for you if you have frequent ear infections, or if you have a hard time adjusting them manually. Within this category of hearing aids, there is an invisible-in-canal (IIC) option that is nearly invisible but not suited for severe hearing loss.
